Medium Distance Drill

Medium Distance Drill

Scott Alford

We’re going to step back a little and focus on the right speed. Keep in mind, we haven’t gotten to the line of the putt yet so don’t worry about that, you’ll find the line by simply rolling putts.

We’ll continue to go around the hole where the speed changes, in this drill we are training the mind to READ THE SPEED.

 Medium distance drill

  • Place a tee into the green that will represent the hole.
  • Start directly below the hole (straight uphill putt)
  • Place Four Balls 2-feet apart at 6,8,10 and 12 feet (in a line)
  • We are always trying to make the putts but most important is to get the speed right.
  • Place a tee into the green about 18-inches past the hole (tee) on the line of the putt.
  • Roll Putts starting at 6 feet then go back to 8, 10 and 12 feet.
  • The distance goal is to make sure to get it to the hole (tee) and no farther than the second tee, that’s 18-inches past the hole.
  • Do these 3 times.
  • Now, Go to the left, right and above the hole, 3 reps each.
Note: This is a great drill to do before your round because it prepares your mind to the speed of the greens without the thought of miss or make.
